Some fun stuff that happened today...
The coolest thing that happened today, for me: Our lesson in writing today was about setting goals and trying to meet them...making them reachable. We spoke about how each student's goal should be different. They took to this idea amazingly. First, I loved how they really thought about goals that would be perfect for them, then talked with a friend about it, shared with the class, and then went to it.
As they were getting settled to work, I heard things like this...
"My goal is to write 3 sentences fast."
"I hope to write one page with neat handwriting."
"That is a good goal, I hope you can do it."
And things like this after writing...
"I wrote one page...that was my goal!"
"It feels good to set a goal."
"I met my goal, my goal for next time is..."
These moments make my day :) It is so fun to see the conversation, teamwork, and support that happens between these young students. It's almost everything I work towards- a community of learners that support each other every single day! Yeah for them!!
We also read another version of The Little Red Hen today and practiced sequencing the story. Instead of gluing the pictures in order, we decided to cut them out, put them in order, and then work in partnerships to explain the sequence of the story. Some were more detailed than others. However, speaking about the text is a higher level thinking skill than simply putting pictures in order. Another great job by these kindergarten students. Check out a few below...
