I had a great time with my two special gals this summer- we did some many neat things, visited lots of cool places, made LOTS of trips up north, spent time on our boat, made some pretty tasty meals and desserts, and tried our hand at a few crafty things...but that isn't my speciality- good thing we get points for creativity!
But- I also spent much of my summer learning! I had the opportunity to go to Oregon for a great conference- Camp Snowball (www.campsnowball.org). I learned about Systems Thinking, how it fits in to education, and how I can use it in my classroom. It was overwhelming at first, but it really started to make sense. It forced me to think a little harder and I can't wait to use the ideas with my kiddos- helping them to push their thinking- even when they are only 5 and 6. It can be done! Stay tuned for updates on what we attempt...
As far as the classroom goes...I did some sprucing...I painted the walls PURPLE! I am super happy with how it looks and I can't wait to welcome 20 something kinders really soon. I also dyed the dingy chair covers a shade of purple and a few black ones. It has come along nicely- I think I might finally have it set up to suit my standards...even though I will probably change it again in a few months...keepin' it fresh and new!
Currently, I am sitting up north with cloudy skies and 59 DEGREES! It is FREEZING! No beach or boating this week! But- it has given me time to blog a little, good news I guess!
So- many of you are probably reading this because I am your child's kindergarten teacher this year! Know that is my greatest pleasure to have a hand in your child's first school experience- and I consider it a privilege. I promise to ease all of your fears on the first day we meet. I know how hard it is to let go of the person that is the most important to you- and trust them to my care. I actually have to let go of one of mine this year...my oldest is a kindergartener too!!
Check out some of my fun summer pictures below...you'll get a glimpse into my life and family- I can't wait to get to know yours!
