Another fantastic week! I will by tie-dying shirts for our class this weekend- each Kindergarten class will have a different color. Ours is purple...I will have your child's shirt to them on Monday- please plan on your student wearing their shirt on Tuesday for our field trip...thank you in advance! Conferences are coming up in November- please use this link to sign up for a conference time- I will meet with every family this time around- to give you an update on your child's progress thus far. Click here to sign up for a conference REMINDERS: 1. IF you still want to donate money for the fun run- you are able to until Oct. 3rd. Check this link to see how we are doing :) https://secure.eventsonline.us/reg/getmovincrew/pub/classroom/9060 We are 6th out of 20! Thank you so much for your generosity! You have a big hand in helping to make Harvest the great place it is! IMPORTANT DATES: October 4th: Kapnick's Orchard Field Trip (Wear Purple Shirt- will come home with your child on Monday) October 20th: Grandparent's Day, 9:30am. Please return the RSVP form so we know how many to plan for. Each child will need a special person to attend that morning, whether it be a grandparent or someone else. October 26th- PICTURE RE-TAKES:) Be sure to let me know that you plan on doing this, as it gets closer- so I am sure to send your child down. November 18th- Kindergarten Pow Wow- info to come home later, but a date to reserve on your calendar- we need lots of parent support and it is one of our biggest events! Theme This Week: Nursery Rhymes (week 2) Reading: Here are the concepts we will cover in Reading Street this week: Letter Recognition: Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy, Zz Phonemic Awareness: inital sounds Popcorn Words/Sight Words: the, little Writing: The focus of our lessons this week: adding a sentence to our drawing, labeling things in our pictures, using what we know to write words, Math: This week we will work on: describing shapes, shape patterns, recognizing equal quantities in different arrangements, counting and comparing numbers | PROJECTS/THINGS SENT HOME/THINGS TO PRACTICE: Travel Books: These will begin to come home this week, however it might be a few weeks until you get one at YOUR house. These are books we make in class and then they travel to each child's home for a night. Please try to read the book the night it comes home with your child, so we can quickly get them to all students. Soon, there will be several circulating. Please note- if your child was absent on the day we completed the book, they will not have a page in the book. SeeSaw: You will also be getting information about SeeSaw- an informational sheet to help you sign up to see your child's LIVE portfolio. I use this site to keep you in the loop about neat things your child is up to, notes I keep when conferencing with them during reading, writing, and math, and various other fun things. If you sign up, you get a glimpse into their day as it is happening...before they even get home! And- you can even leave comments for them :) Right now we are still learning how to use it- so you will see some basic posts as the become familiar with the app. Please let me know if you have questions. Raz-Kids: Sending home your child's log-in information- this is an online site/app your child can use to read leveled texts- a great way to encourage reading on their own! But- please don't let this replace your nightly reading with your child- using traditional books...that is the most important way to encourage a love for reading! Again, questions- let me know! Practice Popcorn Words: I, am, the little Everyday Math HomeLinks- Unit 1 *These are purely activities for you to complete at home, if you find them beneficial. Nothing needs to be returned to school, even if it says so in the HomeLink. Please keep these at home and use them as you see fit :) DONATIONS: We will be building apple towers next week- it would be great if each family could send in 2 apples, already cut into cubes. Roughly the size of a small ice cube. We also need several boxes of toothpicks. Thanks for your help. Have a great weekend! Don't forget- our Field Trip to the orchard is TUESDAY! I have tons of pictures I will upload this weekend :) |

Check out the pics below...here are just a FEW of the things we did today. We learned and explored with pattern blocks this morning- you could see what shapes they remember building with. Then, we are also read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, and we are making our own version. Today we did the cover and the first page...
Don't forget, tomorrow is RED day!
We played a measurement math game today and we have had a fun playing with friends during activity time :) The friendships are flourishing!
A few snapshots of our work time today- we completed a birthday book for our friend Ian, and we finished a Kissing Hand poem...look for that at home today. See if your child can tell you about the story we read.
Our 3rd grade buddies helped us get settled this morning- and were fantastic helpers! And- we have had an AMAZING morning- now we are having a little activity time- they are playing together, working together and becoming a great team....ALREADY!
