Another great week! We are really getting the hang of all of our classroom routines- eSpark is starting to become easy. We spent the week talking about how to record a GOOD video...this is the hardest part of eSpark for kindergarten students...they are doing fantastic! **Again, I will ask- please DO NOT download and begin using your child's eSpark account at home- we are putting a lot of effort into each teaching video and each app played, and we are using a journal to document learning. If you were to work on it at home- those same procedures won't be able to be met. I will evaluate though, a little later, and possibly send home the information for those interested in working through some of it at home. Thanks for understanding. Halloween was fun! Our parade turned out great, despite it having to be inside! Thanks to all of the parents who came to watch our parade, and all of the parents who attended the party and donated items for our treat! It was a fun morning! We had fun themed Halloween day! Important Dates: November 11- 50's Day: It will be the 50th day of school- we will have a 50's themed day...see information sent home today :) November 14- Pow Wow- see information sent home today, and also watch for a email from Signup Genius and the room parents. We will need lots of volunteers for this day- so if interested, plan on it. November 19th and 20th- Conferences and half days of school: Please check the website- under "more" for your conference day and time. If you don't have one, please let me know what open time slot works for you. | Theme This Week: Native Americans Reading: here are the objectives we are working with this week: Comprehension: Main Idea Phonics: /p/ spelled Pp Popcorn Words: we, my, like Phonemic Awareness: initial and final /p/ Writing: We will work hard to make our way through the last few lessons of our Narrative Writing unit this week...we will begin the publishing process the following week! They are SUPER excited to share their writing with you! They have WORKED so hard! Here are the concepts we will cover in math: comparing attributes of objects, comparing representations of numbers, number recognition and one-to-one correspondence. We started Math Workshops this week- the kids seem to love the "stations." We will continue with this about 3 times each week. Remember, math in kindergarten is very activity and game based. The Home Links that come home are suggested activities for you to complete at home, to extend upon the teaching at school. You don't need to return these to school. Raz-Kids: Today, attached to your child's homework packet, you will find log-in information for Raz-Kids. This is an online site your child will become familiar with. They can access it through their iPad and have done so already. We will use this periodically in class. Please feel free to also use it at home. It has LOTS of texts at simple reading levels- making it a great place for kindergarten students to practice their reading. As I learn more about your reader, I will adjust their starting level. For now, all students have started at a level A. If you have questions, let me know. There is an app for Raz-Kids, so if you have a tablet, it might be worth downloading! |
