The kids did a really cool thing today with their iPads. They love to show Mrs. Kolacki what they know, because she is intrigued with what they can do on their iPads. So, after teaching a Tally Mark lesson, she asked them to teach it back to her using ShowMe, and they did. Then, in the afternoon, they worked on peer editing with their piece of writing that will be published on Thursday. After reviewing their story with their partner, they took their iPad and their writing and found a quiet spot, and they recorded themselves reading their writing. Some just did their voice, and some showed their writing on their video, also including their voice. This was really for many reason, not just for the fun of making a video, but the learning is endless.
1. Helped them to take more ownership of their story.
2. We tell them we want them to be authors- this makes it more real, makes it more like the stories we listen to on CD or the stories we listen to on Raz Kids or BookFlix.
3. The idea of editing was really pushed home- when they realized they couldn't read it for their recording, they knew they needed to fix it.
4. Listening to their recording again and again allowed many to find places where their words didn't make sense.
See below for a few pics of how some students chose to record their story.
