A few things...
Thanks so much for everyone who was able to attend Open House. It was good to see you all again and the kids seemed to have so much fun showing you around THEIR classroom.
Don't forget, the color days continue next week. If you've misplaced the schedule, I have included it below...
One important side note :) The blue take home folders have two pockets on the inside: one labeled "return to school" and the other labeled "keep at home." Please INGORE those labels. The students put their own things into their folder and we don't pay attention to those labels. Most school work will stay at home- and the homework will be listed in this blog to be returned. Sometimes I will ask students to finish something at home, but I will typically put a sticky note on that for you. Hope this helps :)
Fun Run information: Fun Run will take place on September 25th and will be during our Specials time. If you'd like to come and cheer on your runner- you're welcome to :) We will be out there from 2:15-3:30.
Week of September 21st: IMPORTANT DATES: September 18th: Family Movie Night September 23: Picture Day September 25th: Fun Run- info to come October 1st: Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun Musical- a school wide field trip! Info to come soon! Theme This Week: Brown Bear (week 2) and Pete the Cat Reading: Here are the concepts we will cover in Reading Street this week: Letter Recognition: Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn Phonological Awareness: Syllables Popcorn Words/Sight Words: I, am (week 2) Writing: We are working through a few very basic lessons this week and next: organizing our folders (deciding what we are still working on and which stories are complete). Working hard on our writing so we can share, drawing to an idea, drawing from our imaginations. They are LOVING writing so far. They are telling really great stories- and I love learning more about them through their writing. Math: This week we worked on: counting games to develop oral counting skills, representing data in graphs, number work | HOMEWORK/PROJECTS/THINGS SENT HOME: Practice Popcorn Words: I, am Writing Folder Homework: look for this in your child's folder- it has directions attached. There is a sample below :) Math Home Links- 1.3 and 1.4: Please complete, these DO NOT need to be returned. These are often just activities to reinforce lessons at school. No need to return them, complete them at your leisure. Reading Street Homework: Unit 1 Week 1: Please complete and return to school. I do not give a deadline, return them to school when you've completed them. This simply starts to encourage responsibility. Take one night, one week or three to complete. Books: Please send in 2-3 familiar books with your child to keep in their book drawer. Please label these with their name. They do not need to be books they can read- just something familiar for them to read/look at during Reader's Workshop. We will change them out periodically. Please do not choose over-sized books. Our drawers are only so big :) Note: I also choose books for their drawer- at their reading level. DONATIONS: dry erase markers- I think I forgot this supply on my list...thanks in advance. |
