Can you believe it is almost October! We can't! We have spent the last 14 days of school having so much fun and learning tons...already! The time flies by everyday! Our class is doing fantastic and I couldn't have hoped for a better group of students. They are getting along nicely, learning how to work together and compromise, and being awesome helpers and fantastic learners. You should be proud to say you are their parents! Thank you for sending me 23 amazing kiddos! Check out the information below...lots of IMPORTANT information!! Week of September 28th: IMPORTANT DATES: October 1st: Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun Musical- a school wide field trip! PERMISSION SLIP SENT TODAY. Please sign and return by MONDAY!! October 22nd: Grandparent's Day- look for information today- in your child's folder, needs to be returned October 31st: Halloween Party- information to come Theme This Week: Nursery Rhymes (2 week unit) Reading: Here are the concepts we will cover in Reading Street this week: Letter Recognition: Oo,Pp,Qq,Rr,Ss Phonemic Awareness: initial sounds, sound discrimination Popcorn Words/Sight Words: the, little Writing: We are working through a few very basic lessons this week and next: adding details to people in our drawings, using basic shapes to draw objects, adding details to animals in our drawing. Math: This week we will work on: representing 5 in multiple ways, composing and decomposing numbers and exploring addition, five frames (exploring addition and subtraction within 5) | HOMEWORK/PROJECTS/THINGS SENT HOME: Practice Popcorn Words: I, am, the, little Reading Street Homework: Unit 1, Week 2 Grandparent Day RSVP- please return Things to look for in your child's folder- just for your reference, not to be returned: 1.Popcorn word list 2.Zoo Phonics packet 3.Name practice 4.Other various flyers and information REMINDERS... Writing Folder Homework: This was sent last week, please return if you haven't yet. See previous weeks blog post for more information- if needed. Books: Please send in 2-3 familiar books with your child to keep in their book drawer- if you haven't already. Please label these with their name. They do not need to be books they can read- just something familiar for them to read/look at during Reader's Workshop. We will change them out periodically. Please do not choose over-sized books. Our drawers are only so big :) Note: I also choose books for their drawer- at their reading level. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!! |
