We had a fantastic week! We made it all the way through the eSpark launch mission- on Monday, all students will begin their individualized quests. Each quest is geared to each student's needs. I am confident you will see lots of progress, very fast. We love eSpark. **I will ask- please DO NOT download and begin using your child's eSpark account at home- we are putting a lot of effort into each teaching video and each app played, and we are using a journal to document learning. If you were to work on it at home- those same procedures won't be able to be met. I will evaluate though, a little later, and possibly send home the information for those interested in working through some of it at home. Thanks for understanding. Grandparent's Day was a super success- thank you for sharing your parents and special friends with me! It was so fun to meet everyone and see the happy faces of every single student when their special person entered the classroom. A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Mitzel, Mrs. Gehringer, and Mrs. Tousa for organizing the event and making it super special. Important Dates: October 31st- Halloween Party and Parade- parade will start at 9:15, the party will follow in our classroom- everyone is welcome to join us. November 14- Pow Wow- more information to follow. We will need lots of volunteers for this day- so if interested, plan on it. A more organized request will come soon :) November 19th and 20th- Conferences and half days of school: Please check the website- under "more" for your conference day and time. If you don't have one, please let me know what open time slot works for you. | Theme This Week: Halloween Reading: We spent the week really learning and enjoying the details of eSpark. We didn't complete the typical reading workshop rotations this week, allowing us to really dive in and get the structure and expectations set for our differentiated and student driven learning experience. We will get back into the routine this week, completing all of the typical rotations. Yea! In Reading Street, here are the objectives we are working with this week: Comprehension: Setting Phonics: /s/ spelled Ss Popcorn Words: have, is Phonemic Awareness: initial and final /s/ Writing: We started writing using "booklets." Students are writing 3 page stories about ONE true story. This is a tricky concept and they are doing very well! We will work on planning using a beginning, middle, and end, and telling stories in the right order. Here are the concepts we will cover in math: graphing, ten frames, shapes, and number writing. Remember, math in kindergarten is very activity and game based. The Home Links that come home are suggested activities for you to complete at home, to extend upon the teaching at school. You don't need to return these to school. We will also be getting math Workshops up and running this week. We will do this about 3 times per week. This will allow all students to play a game relating the weeks concepts or work with me. Also, part of their math time EVERYDAY will be on eSpark Math. |
